K-12 Education

Belle Fourche has an excellent public school system and plenty of opportunity for higher learning and continuing education.  K-12 public education is provided through the Belle Fourche School District (BFSD).  Schools include:

TREC / Badlands Head Start works in partnership with the residents of rural, western South Dakota and is committed to providing quality services as well as access to community resources through responding to the evolving needs of rural communities with Head Start prenatal to 5 services, early childhood education, health and wellness programming, parent education, and other needed community programs.

Black Hills State University (BHSU)

Spearfish, SD is home to Black Hills State University.  BHSU offers 75 academic programs at the associate, bachelor, and master degree levels. BHSU, which has over 4,000 students, has earned a reputation for innovative, high-quality academic programs and a dynamic learning community.

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T)

Located in nearby Rapid City, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. For the 2014-2015 academic year, the university enrolled 2,798 students from 45 states and 39 foreign countries, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 14:1.  SDSM&T offers engineering degrees in electrical, environmental, geology, mechanical, science, mining, and energy.

Western Dakota Technical (WDT)

Western Dakota Technical is the only technical institute that serves the western South Dakota region. With enrollment in excess of 1,045 students
, WDT offers more than 20 programs in a variety of fields, including Business and Computers, Construction Trades, Health Services, Legal and Public Services, Manufacturing and Mechanical Trades, and Science and Technology.
