Black Hills Special Services Cooperative advances public education, technology that reduces geographic isolation, and job creation through healthy economic development. Central offices are located in Sturgis with satellite offices throughout the Black Hills and in Pierre. Though the Cooperative is a governmental legal entity, it does not levy taxes; funding is secured by providing services which public institutions and private organizations are willing to buy.
Black Hills State University is the U.S. state of South Dakota’s third largest comprehensive public university, offering both undergraduate and graduate programs. The 123-acre campus is located in Spearfish.
Black Hills Special Services Cooperative, recognizing that learning should be continued throughout our individual life, has authorized the development of the Community Education program. The facilities and equipment of the area school districts are made available to this program, thus providing more use of public facilities.
Northern Hills Training Center provides the supports people need to live in and be an active member of their community. In order to provide a variety of choices for people, these supports are offered in a variety of settings including group homes, supervised apartments, family homes and traditional community housing.
